New in 2007
Last year Oticon unveiled the Oticon Delta, an open and ultra-small behind-the-ear hearing aid. This was Oticon’s most successful product release and it has been an extremely successful hearing aid for our patients. There have been software updates and new product releases within the Delta line that make it a new product for 2007. These instruments are so cosmetic that no one will know you’re wearing a hearing aid if you don’t tell them.
Oticon’s big new product release for 2007 has been the Epoq. This hearing aid is available as a small open behind-the-ear hearing aid as well as being available in all in-the-ear styles. The Epoq has a number of great new features that have never before been available in hearing aids. The Epoq uses high speed wireless communication between the hearing aids to coordinate the processing. This allows the hearing aids to perform better in challenging listening environments. It also allows Oticon to incorporate what they call spatial sound. This feature enhances localization cues and enables the user to better determine the location of any sound source. Additionally, these hearing aids also incorporate a very wide 10 kHz bandwidth, which can make the listening experience much more natural for those patients who are fortunate enough to have usable hearing in the higher frequencies. The “my voice” feature can tell the difference between when the user is talking and when other people are talking. This prevents the hearing aids from inappropriately changing processing strategies when the user is speaking. And last but not least, this hearing aid uses wireless Bluetooth technology that can wirelessly connect both hearing aids to a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone or an iPod using the Streamer that is pictured to the left. .
